The Almond Jar

It may not actually be a jar,

Nor does it contain almonds anymore,

But instead it holds notes from old friends:

Memories immortalized onto scrap pieces of paper.

It sounded a little cheesy when my friend suggested we make friendship jars

And write happy little notes to each other to put inside.

I ended up not even having a jar but an empty container of almonds instead,

But now I wouldn’t trade it or change it for anything.

Some of the notes were sentimental, others were funny,

One was a pun, and another just said that today is a good day.

Since then I have received other notes and added to those precious few

Which have never failed to bring a smile on my face

It has not been easy living 1800 miles away from these friends.

Although I love college, I still miss home.

But I will always have a way to make my day a little brighter

Patiently waiting in my almond jar

It may not actually be a jar,

Nor does it contain almonds anymore,

But instead it holds notes from old friends:

Memories immortalized onto scrap pieces of paper.
