The American Dream
Isn't that what we're all looking for?

They say,
“If it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck, then it’s a duck.”
I acted like everyone else.
I sounded like everybody else.
So why wasn’t I like everybody else?

I didn't even know what it meant to be an immigrant.
It was just another word until reality hit me.
The meaning of the word was forced on me.
The weight of the world was thrown upon me.

I was born there
but I was raised here.

I don’t belong there,
but they don’t want me here.

Is it my fault?
Is there anything I can do?
Where do I go from here?

I just want what everyone else wants.
I’m just searching for what everyone else seeks.
I’m just dreaming what everyone else dreams.
