Amongst The Ashes

Location

It's more than a job

More than a pastime

It's a passion,

A calling

And a duty

It's to rescue a girl from the burning fire,

And from herself

Whether it's to extinguish the fire from beneath her feet

Or the late nights thoughts in her head at 3 a.m.

It's to save a cat hanging ten feet above,

And return him to a broken family

They're more than a person behind a red truck

More than a friendly wave across the grocery aisle

They're mentors to our children

And lifelines to our safety

They're firefighters,

And they save us from the one thing we know best

Ourselves
