The Angel and the Sea

you were my sun that i rose to meet each morning

and i treasured every moment i felt your warmth on my skin

and even when we at departed at sunset

i still felt your glow in the moon and the stars

you were a burst of light that vanished too quickly

and sometimes

words are never enough

and every minute that went by

with that unbearable silence

you felt your chest cave in deeper

you stuffed things inside that didn't seem to fill in the hole in your chest

as if smoke and mirrorse and mirror could distract how vacant you felt

and with every breath you inhaled

you emptied yourself just a little more

and there was nothing left of you to take

how you wanted to keep the world

and bottle it up inside

but the ocean was too much so it

left hairline fractures in your bones

you left it there and

let it drag you down until you collapsed

into tiny slivers of pieces

like shards of a shattered mirror

and you would reflect the pain you were given

but you never returned

when did you forget how to smile?

you poor old soul,

you who wondered, searching long and hard

for a place to call home

trying to find among strangers a common ground

but only to discover that you were

surrounded by moutains

and the climb was too steep

you fell every time you tried

one day i will tell your story to the youth

how your tears filled the sea with salt

and although the storms swallowed the sound of your screams

they didn't wash away the stories you left in the sand

i will tell them how no matter the multitude of blizzards you suffered

your heart never turned cold

though frost bite ripped at your throat

you still carried the fire in your eyes

that kept you warm on the most threatening nights

you never froze over

you held a candle to the darkness of the caves

and uncovered treasures no one knew existed

how your blood ran thicker than water

and you established a family in these stone walls

you etcheed your heart and soul into the cracks and

integrated your deepestthoughts

that live on to this day

you found hope

in a place

where our dreams had died

you gave beauty

to a world

that turned ugly with hate

and a soul like you

was too precious for a place like this

and so heaven reclaimed

its angel

the world will never love you

like i did
