Another Day

You look at the toy that sits on the shelf and it stares back

All you want is that little bear and you tell your mom, "I'll pay you back!"

She says "No" as she pulls you away

She tells you "Maybe another day!"

It's five years later and you want a puppy

"Please, Mom, please! We can name him Lucky!"

She says "No" as she pulls you away

She tells you "Maybe another day!"

It's seven years later and you want a car

You only want it so you can drive and drive and get very far

She says "No" as she pulls you away

She tells you "Maybe another day!"

It's four years later and your in college

You're leaving class, mind full of knowledge

Your phone rings and it's not what you want to hear

Your mom has been in an accident and the end of her life is near

You race to the hospital for her final words

You say to her, "Will I see again one day?"

What she says next, you should have expected her to say.

She looks at him, holds his hand, and says "Maybe another day!"
