Awake, My Soul, Awake

Awake, my soul, awake,
Throw off the cloth of ease
Try thy own weight and strength
Cast off the dust, and reach
Arise and stretch
Arise and feel
Awake, my soul, awake,
Chase away the sleep

Escape, my soul, escape
From visions false and vain
Haste! Make a break from sin -
Dreams that lead thy heart astray
Away and fly
Away to fight
Escape, my soul, escape
Take to flight again

Acquaint, my soul, acquaint
Thyself with wakeful range
Of Wisdom to obey
Chase away thy folly great!
Array with sense
Array with strength
Acquaint, my soul, acquaint
Thyself with day

Thou hast woken me, Father
- and told me of my sleep -
Thank You for the gift of breath
And energy to weep
Thank You for the pain
That reminds me I'm alive
Gird me from the numbness
Of forgetting Your goodness to me, Your bride.
May I glory in Your goodness
And glory in Your truth
When all else fails to awe me, Lord,
Let me live in wakeful wonderment of You
