The Ballad of a Broken Mother

As he walked into the trailer house She was waiting patiently She looked up with fearful eyes Now it was clear to me She sent us to our bedrooms Before he started to yell Tears welled up in her eyes The night had turned to hell. He sounded drunk again, I know the sound of that scream she cried please stop, please but what does this mean? There were loud bangs and crashes She cried out in fear We sat anxiously in our room Wondering, was he still here? We began to grow scared When there was silence What was going on out there? Someone stop this violence We didn’t know if it was safe to come out Where did mom go? Then we heard the door slam The end of the show. But it wasn’t the end Back for round two The door opened back up The wounds were now new When this night came to an end Mom was still crying We found her laying there Inside, she was dying.
