Barbie

When I was a litte girl,

I wanted to be Barbie.

When I was a teenager,

I wanted to be Diane von Furstenburg.

Today,

I still secretly wish to be Barbie.

While I know I will never be as great as the woman who invented the wrap dress,

One day you'll know my name.

I'll start as a lowly intern.

Get my coffee

Did you pick up the dry cleaning

Why haven't you ordered my lunch yet

I need this on my desk before the day is out

But,

I'll climb up the ladder

Wrung by wrung,

Bit by bit.

Until everyone knows my name,

And I'm the one making the calls.

Today,

I still want to be Barbie.

Tomorrow,

I will be the editor of Vogue

Having tea with my idol.

The little girl I am still hoping to someday be

Barbie.
