Barefoot in the Snow

How can I go creeping

Barefoot in the snow?

How can I love so deeply,

Someone I do not know?

There is beauty that I find

In your smile, in your eyes

In the tears while you cry

In the trails they leave behind

Why do I find beauty

In pain, in grief

In brutality

No kiss of relief?

But how you are here

How you feel each wretched thing

There is beauty in the way

You can begin again

We can accept the truth

Though painful, dark it is

I’ll give my hand to you

Since mine is yours to give

So I can go creeping

Barefoot in the snow

Because although my toes are freezing

Through the pain I know

That somewhere waiting

Through that blinding white

Is a soft, dark place

And a hope of warmer times.
