This Beautiful, Vibrant Young Girl

Sun, 04/30/2017 - 22:30 -- amfritz

Picturing a beautiful, vibrant young girl crouching

Amongst a crowd of bellowing white men,

Who won’t put down the argument that doesn’t concern them.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl

Is the argument.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl will grow up too fast.

In elementary school, they teach her to be free.

They teach her to follow her dreams.

She will make friends with the little boy who likes pink,

The little girl who loves race cars.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl will learn to express her feelings,

To be understanding and to listen to the arguments of those around her

Because that is the way she wants to be treated.

She will be respectful to her elders, and her peers because they are her equals.

And she knows this.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl will spend her years in primary school being built up.

Only to be knocked down.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl will go home and her family will have game nights.

Each member will sit cross-legged on the living room floor.

They will appreciate each other and respect each other.

They will not have excess, but they will have enough.

Not that it matters, because they will love each other.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl will grow up too fast.

She will have the grades.

She will have the service.

She will have the involvement.

She will ease through high school, as a wave eases through the ocean.

But all waves must crash.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl will meet the “man” of her dreams,

If anyone can even call this boy a man.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl and this boy will be inseparable, attached at the hip.

They will have a moment of intimacy, one that creates a change in

This beautiful, vibrant young girl’s life.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl’s “man of her dreams” won’t stay.

He will move on, in his words “To bigger and better things.”

But wasn’t this beautiful, vibrant young girl the biggest and best thing?

This beautiful, vibrant young girl will not be able to support herself,

Let alone another human being.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl thought this life was her’s to live.

That she had the time to be young, free, and her.

But the crowd of bellowing white men tell her no.

They tell her that her body is theirs.

They tell her that it is against their religion, despite her lack of one.

They tell her that they cannot allow her to kill an unborn human

But what about the living and breathing beautiful, vibrant young girl in front of them?

They tell her that she can give this unborn human up for adoption but

That they will lack the funds to support the current adoption and foster system this unborn human will be placed in.

This beautiful, vibrant young girl will grow up too fast.
