Because I Love You

Because you love me
I remind myself of your good qualities
Because you love me
I ignore the several times you've lied
Because you love me
I pretend you aren't the root of my tears
Because you love me
I dissimilated the reflection of the negativity in our relationship
Because you love me

I lessened myself to match you

Because you love me
I act if my tears are happy ones
Because you love me
I start ignoring others' advances
Because you love me
I know these bruises weren't on purpose
Because you love me
I expend more energy than I receive
Because you love me
I perceive the heartache you caused me as happiness

But because I love myself,

I grasp the depth of our relationship.

It's time to go.

I hope you realize,

That's not love.

That's being in control. That's not being equals. That's a one-way ticket to being alone.
