Because I Love You

Because I love you, I am patient

Waiting as you ramble about things I don’t care about

I am patient as I wait for you to message me

And as I understand the fact that that may take days, even weeks

Because I love you, I am gentle

Holding you carefully in my arms when we sleep together

I’ve always been gentle, but never like this

You’ve brought out a new gentleness in me

Because of you, I am sad

Crying as I long for the day you love me back

I was sad as I watched you kiss and hug another

I had finally found love; Why must it be like this?

Because of you, I am accepting

Letting go of lost hope and accepting what cannot be changed

I am accepting of the fact that you don’t love me the way I love you

After all, you are still my friend, and that is better than nothing

Because I love you, I am moving on

You do not love me the way I love you

You aren’t mine the way I am yours

You do not look at me the way I look at you

Because I love you, I am letting you go

It will not be easy, it will take a long time

But I cannot hold onto this despair any longer

Darling, I will always love you, but I must let you go
