Because I Love You

Because I love you,

I support you from the sidelines,

strengthening your spirit and allowing you

to do the best you possibly can in everything

you do.

Because I love you,

I let you have free reign on social media,

unless it is unhealthy,

then I will calmly try and ask you to stop.

Because I love you,

I’ll hold your hand in public,

I’ll take time out of my day to be with you,

I’ll value you more than objects,

and I’ll never make you feel left out.

Because I love you,

I’ll walk away when you don’t need or want me,

I’ll take care of your things,

And I’ll never,

Never,

Make you uncomfortable in any way.

I love you. And I’ll never stop loving you.

As I am a poor high school student, I am writing this to possibly gain something. However, I was unaware of the prompt, and I became much more motivated. I have been thinking of this issue for a while, about how toxic our society is with relationships. It seemed that everywhere i went, people were being guilted and manipulated by the people they called their friends or partners. Why is this how we treat those we wish to keep by our sides? What caused society to be so self destructive? This poem shows what a good relationship would be, one with trust and validation. One that doesn't create trumoil within the other person. If I can provide an example of what you should do with your partner or friend, that would fulfill my wishes.
