Beneath the Waves

Fri, 05/10/2013 - 16:53 -- Coltin

Oh how I wish that I could stay
under the blue and beneath the waves,
exploring secrets that remain unseen
even by scientists in a submarine.

To live among the colorful fish
could be my one and only wish,
to swim by coral towers and buttresses
forming the centers of the fishes’ fortresses.

The pull to surface, too strong to ignore
always reminds me I’m only offshore.
Oxygen, like chains, continues to limit
my time down deep to merely a visit.
