Between my lungs and my brain

I am convinced that part of me has always belonged to you. Before we met I walked around with an empty hole somewhere between my lungs and my brain. When we met there was no fanfare but I knew you were different because that hold filled like a latch clicking into place. 'Oh' I said (to myself) 'better'. When you left you took that piece of me with you, and more besides. The hole became a cavern and I became undeniably, irreparably lost.
