A Breath of Fresh Air

Fri, 04/19/2019 - 22:15 -- okra00

I’m drowning

Each time I rise above to take a breath

A wave crashes over my head

The waves big and small

Each delivering the same blow

Causing my lungs to ache, to burn

But it’s a welcome feeling

Because I know I’m feeling something at this point

Soon, the cool water begins to ease these pains

It’s calming, soothing

And the darker it gets the safer I feel

The overwhelming desire to feel safe pulls me in

And I fall

But I can hear someone yelling at me

To try harder, to breathe

To rise above the chaos and the waves

To swim and fight

These words lift me up, carrying me back to life

Back to the world

And we pass through the waves together

Until I can breathe
