Brissa

You see I can't tell you because I'm not sure what she held higher
Herself or her mother lies
She spent years in a guarded cell
Wrapped in a shell that she nor her mother ever shed
There were many days she took her bruises
But did not fall closer to the ground
Because the frequency of it all was as loud as her mothers cry
And all the while she tried to hide that pain inside that's still resides within the walls of her heart that beats against her temples
She vowed to stay strong
her brothers and sisters did not know of such courage to not turn towards the direction of that blow
She said "be strong. Be strong"
She was their hero
And on the days she was not there and daddy decided to take it out on them
They were not scared
They did not know of such fear anymore
