Broken Rules, Lone Wolves, and Kingdoms

Location

"Break some rules, but don't break the law... Break the rules that society sets for you."

That's what he said. That's what he preached.

"What's the point of living if you want to be like everyone else?!"

That's what he said. That's what hit me harder than anything I have ever felt.

I, Edgar Martinez, have grown up hearing things like "You're Mexican, you can't do that"

I, Edgar Martinez, cannot accept that. I refuse to.

I grew up idolizing him and now he gave me the advise I needed to fight off any naysayer.

There are no rules set for me in my life. No rules that say I can't do something simply because of my skin.

I can be whoever and whatever I want to be.

I can't live my life wanting to be someone else, even him.

I was a wolf in the pack.

Now im a lone wolf determined to be a king of my own mountain, my own kingdom.

This is what Arnold Schwarzenegger preached.

I thank him for being not only my idol, but being the other lone wolf that helped me find my own mountain.

I thank him for preaching to me that I can be proud being whoever or whatever I am.

I thank him for showing me that straying away and finding my own way is much more enriching than running with the pack.
