butterfly someday

Hold on little caterpillar
i know why you move
so slowly

i know why you are so quiet
so vulnerable
and so small

hold on little caterpillar
wait for me
lets become butterflies

I stared, walked slowly
i started holding my tongue
 i know why

i know why you're so scared
why you care so much
why i am fascinated

we didn't know,
little caterpillar
that you knew better than we

wait for me.

lets become
butterflies someday

i know little caterpillar
why i cannot come

why my wings
will never grow
will never allow me to take flight

ive learned, little caterpillar,
your secret.
that which i did not know

you must melt,
my friend.
you must consume yourself

you must leave
no part of yourself alive
in order to become a butterfly

wait for me little caterpillar
don't build your cocoon
not yet

im still not patient enough
little caterpillar
im still not silent

i still find parts of myself
unsavory,
im still too afraid

im not ready, little caterpillar
to see you die
to yourself.

i can't stand to see
you achieve
that which i cannot

you left me,
you broke through
 your cocoon

you emerged with wings
and a stronger body
but you're still so small

hello, little butterfly
ill catch you
ill take your wings

ill pin them to my skin

ill be a butterfly someday.
