A Cage Wrought By Beasts

Steamy hands on the window pane

She takes a breath and slips away

Pulled by hands of a sick step-father

Iron bars built all around her

She threw herself to the men she saw

Used and abused to feel something

Other than the pain of the bruises left

By the creature within her mother's bed

Night after night she'd lie awake

And hope he'd stay far away

Dreams would come of suicide

But when she woke she would find

That a broken boy stumbled to the door

Scars of his own hidden deep below

She deserved abuse, or so she claimed

But to her surprise, he saw right away

One week later and the predator's gone

Locked in a cage with other sickened ones

Free at last she smiled and said

"I hope you find a hero, just like you've been"
