Call Me When You're Tired

Hours on the road

Radio blaring

Eyes wandering the pavement

Like dark blue nomads

With each slurred eigth note

There's a sway in your neck

A stoplight is a green light

To text me back

Wandering eyes focused on me

Focus on me

You're falling asleep behind the wheel

Again

And again

You call me up

Your only friend awake at three in the morning

Words slurred and giggles

So pure

So precious

Every whisper about God

A secret wrapped inside

You're the only one in the world

My heart can confide

But what if...

The line goes dead

Blood rushing from your head

Down the temple to your sweet face

Noodle neck now broken

Sleepy sighs forever put to rest

In my fading memory

As your memory fades to black

Jesus take the wheel

What if God wanted more?

Your carelessness

It's just a car

Totaled

What if it wasn't a car?

What if this time

It was your life

So please be careful

Please look both ways

Call me when you're tired

Just to keep you safe

Eyes on the road

Focus on my voice

Then we won't have the choice

Pull or don't pull

The plug of life

Pulsing energy to you

Driving miles and miles

Call me when you're tired

Put the phone down otherwise

And please, pretty please

Look twice
