Castles
I am six and playing with a toy doctor's set
taking my grandmother's blood pressure because
she needs to take medicines
and get better.
I am twelve and splashing in a wave pool
lying on my back undeneath a gray sky
my hair spreads out in its firework way
and the water slips.
I am sixteen and sitting high above
in an apartment of a lush metropolis
holding my two year old cousin while
he squirms and hits my mouth.
I am nearly seventeen and remembering
all these things I told my grandparents
I would buy them houses
but I wish I could build them castles.
