A Chance Interaction

It’s been awhile

Since I’ve seen your smile

Fancy seeing you again

All these years, where’ve you been?

We’ve done some growing up

Since that time when we broke up.

But now our paths have crossed once more,

And though you left me so sore,

Now I know…

You can say the right things,

Show me the ring,

But ultimately your actions sing much louder.

You were such a pouter,

Kind of a downer, really.

Always so touchy-feely.

Maybe I was not right for you.

I’ve always wanted what’s best for you.

Don’t argue, you know it’s true.

But although you drove me crazy,

I could’ve been yours, maybe.

But before we go our separate ways,

There is something I’d like to say.

It is because of you

I know why the caged bird sings.
