Charmed, I'm Sure

Location

Each night you sleep peacefully in the padded satin

In your petite, floral painted wooden home

As I prepare for another day, I reach for you

You comply with no hesitations, no complaints as

I pull the tiny crown and a parade of delicate sterling silver follows, dancing in the air

No, no sound at all, with the exception of that sweet “clink”

Oh that clinking sound! The clinking sound of champagne glasses

At New Year’s warmly surrounded by our family’s laughter and love

Oh that clinking sound! The clinking sound of me having thrown you at

The ground after a most devastating 2-week break up…

There are no blouses you cannot compliment or shoes you could clash with,

I adorn you with each outfit I put together, and though you are so tiny

I cannot help but feel bare without you.

You are my friend, you are my fellow explorer

Together we have paraded through the “concrete streets where dreams are made of”

And conquered an exhausting hike up and down Baldy

Together we have gone through many “firsts,”

You supported me in earning my driver’s license; consoled me in a life-changing accident…

“Click!” and your hook and link are reunited,

Ready to assist me in taking on yet another day

There is no way I could ever feel lonely,

In my brightest times, and in my darkest

You are there shimmering in your sterling silver

When I think of him, I hold onto you

When I hold onto you, he is there.

He is there to kiss my forehead, hold my hand,

And feels the need to repeat to me again everything you mean.

The beautiful, perfectly rounded globe: I am your world

The sweet, miniature spotted deer: that I am dear to you

The delicate tiara: I’m your princess

The bold and lovely elephant to symbolize a favorite movie of ours

The interlocking hearts: to represent our love

The classy and chic, mini high heel: my love for fashion

The volleyball, the sport I’ve loved since junior high

The locked heart to remind me he has the key to it,

And the, car, key to forever remind me I have the one to his.

As I close my eyes, and hold onto one of the sweet and silent memories

Sometimes I smile, but I could also shake my head in frustration

Whether I’m agitated or in a puppy love daze,

When you swing, when you clink,

When you cause my sweater to snag,

When you make imprints of a deer or a heart on my wrist after a nap,

You remind me that love is easy

That though you may be apart in distance,

You are never in heart…

My eyes open, and the day has come and gone

I unclasp the hook and link that brings you together

And lay you down to sleep another night in your petite, painted wooded home until tomorrow
