Charred

Location

Heartbreak:

The burning knife of rejection

Leaves the heart in pieces

The ache and the emptiness

Inside of one’s soul

But some, like I

Don’t allow the knife through

The tall sturdy walls

That are put up due

To all the pain we’ve endured

The knife stabs at the wall

And tries to break

The tender, warm heart

Dying to be kept safe

And though surely the knife

Can’t penetrate,

The wall catches fire

Which leaves the heart whole,

Just a little bit charred
