Checkmate
I live my life like a game of chess
where all of the things I love are sacrificed like pawns.
I move and shuffle pieces around my board
and watch as they're taken from me.
"Pawn to E5."
Taken.
"Pawn to D6"
Taken.
"Queen takes D6"
A small retribution, but my game,
my life still in ashes.
"Check."
"Check."
"Check."
I run frantically around the board,
ignoring my problems and just trying to escape
all of the sacrifices and trying to just hold on
"Check."
"Check."
"Check."
I am hopeless,
a single soldier against an army,
so I run, run, run.
But someday, my problems will be faster than me.
"Check."
"Check."
"Checkmate."
