As Childhood Fades

(modeled after ‘My Boy Jack’)

“HAVE you spotted my childhood?

Not this dream.

“Will it come back if I’m good?”

Not while your eyes are shut, and you dream.

“Can man regain innocence?”

Not this dream.

Trust in strangers used to make sense,

Not once you’ve been lied to, not this dream.

“Where is the soothing lullaby?”

Not this dream

Nor any dream

In moments with an aching cry---

Not even with some Pixie Dust, and that dream.

Accept it to move on and grow

New dream

From Now On dream;

Let the water wash you anew,

And waves carry you to the other shore.
