Coffee

I’m everywhere and nowhere all at once.

No shape of my own, no self

I fill every inch of void around me

While being nothing at all.

I follow the Law of Liquid, the path of least resistance

with no thought to either my path

Or my destination.

My existence is scalding and my lifespan fleeting

I see daylight over the waterfall

Gaining speed, losing heat.

Unknowingly I become part of a cycle of Pour and Refill.

Never-ending.

I gradually fade into a flavorless nothingness,

Nothing but traces of sugar left behind in my wake.

Feel no pity for my meager life,

As it was filled to the brim with purpose.

So goes the life of every cup of coffee that ever has been

And ever will be.
