Colorful Love

Our love was a Lego tower built up of different colored blocks
Our love was a mismatched pair of socks mated together,
And the clocks on the wall ticked backwards for what seemed like forever
According to the mainstream our love was deemed wrong
But rightfully it was our choice all along
We just let them get under our skin
Your black skin and my white skin, they would scream for sin
So we gave in, how could we win?
They protested loudly and cowardly protesting our love hourly with threats of death or worse
Our love was a blessed curse, but who was to judge?
We stood like headstones refusing to budge purely out of respect and nobility
But vulnerability wormed its way into our hearts like a parasite making demands of its host
Hate was the outpost off the coast of a world to blind to see
We were misunderstood by the biased blind eyes staring through you and me
Nothing but blurred visions as racial slurs were tossed out in overbearing provisions
The rations of hate provided decisions of darkened haste
And I would rather starve than copy and paste this hate
I would go to Hell and back to debate that this is unjustifiable and undeniably wrong.
But just imagine for a moment a world like John Lennon's song
Where we all got along, and gave something and made this life worth living
Giving up the clothes our own backs to make a coat of many colors
Helping others, lending shoulders to cry on in our hours of need
Crippling the government's body of greed
And giving disabled veterans the rights that they fought to free
Bringing home soldiers so daddies can see their daughters and sons
Allowing the sun to rise and shine
Reinstating a shrine of a place called home
Lonesome months till the winter saves me
December 9th is what became of you and me
You and I, like snow meeting tar
I'm surprised we made it this far
Through ourselves and back again
Discovering introspection within
Understanding was something we lacked
Black and white make grey
The grey area shows us the open mindedness
The heartlessness of society cannot understand
If they could give us a chance to see the beauty of the pigments created at the clasp of our hands
The tide washes away the castles of sand
It slips away as today fades into yesterday
The future is lies ahead at the fork in the road
How will our story be told, how will it be?
Will the questions fall from the sky in a white noise?
Or will they appear in the dead of some black night?
I feel so close to you God above
But this our colorful love
Boy meets girl
Black meets white
Why are they so color blind?
Why can't they look beneath the skin and see?
We are all colorless
With colorful love
