Comfortably Content

“Wanna go out? we’re all going to dinner?”

That is not desirable...

I have pressure on my shoulders

I have books to read

I have things to do

I have money to save

I have little energy to waste

I have to wear my mask now...

Pressure: The use of persuasion, influence, or intimidation to make someone do something.

That is not desirable...

Will I be looked down on if I don’t go?

Will I be disregarded next time something fun is planned?

Will I be forgotten?

Will I be treated like an outcast?

Will I be a nobody?

Will I be forced to be someone I am not?

Compensation: The process of concealing or offsetting a psychological difficulty by developing in another direction.

That is not desirable…

What if we went on a walk? Just a few of us?

What if we listened to music? Just a few of us?

What if we went on a bike ride? Just a few of us?

What if we played video games? Just a few of us?

What if we read books? Just a few of us?

What if we…. oh… alright….

Extrovert: An outgoing, overtly expressive person.

That is not desirable...

Overcrowded

Overstimulating

Overbearing

Overexerting

Overtiring

Overrated

Introverted: A shy, reticent person.

This is desirable!

Comfortably content in a world of personalized conversation

Comfortably content in a world of quiet concentration

Comfortably content in a world of peace and individuality

Comfortably content in a world of books and records

Comfortably content in a world of arts and sciences

Comfortably content.

Peer Pressure: influence from members of one's peer group.

That is not desirable…

I feel like I’m forced to be someone I’m not

I feel like I’m forced to have fun when I’m not

I feel like I’m a black sheep when I’m not

I feel like I’m an outcast when I’m not

I feel like I’m a fish out of water

I feel like a mask is held onto my face by the strings of my desire to have friends.

I see some of you, and you are just like me.

Faking excitement

Longing for true social experience

I know the statistics

25% of the world

Introverts

you must be out there

but for some reason

you choose social acceptance

over personal joy

and I long to spend my time with you

where we can both be happy

but that’s not the way the world works,

and instead

we both

choose to be accepted

and not

comfortably content
