The Couple

Location

Black.

Her eye, because

She was wrong

Again.

It was her own fault,

As always.

Beige.

A brush full of concealer

Hiding a secret

Nobody will learn.

Red.

His face

When he screams

How she is never

Good enough.

White.

The plaster showing through

The cracks in the wall

Where appliances

And the occasional chair

Crash.

Indigo.

The sky excluding

Moon and stars

As she disappears for good,

Vowing not to come back

This time.

Gray.

The bus seats

When she drags her suitcase

Through rows of

Faceless

Strangers.

Gold.

His car as he pulls up at the next

Bus stop

To apologize for his ways.

Pink.

His words full of promise

That he really will change

And things really will be

Different.

Green.

Fading bruises

He kisses

To show he's

A whole

New

Person.

Black.

Their bedroom.

The lights

Go out.
