Creative Excuses

Curisority and confusion are scribbled all over my english teachers face, She tells me

“Maddy its okay to go at your own pace”

I ready my cannons and prepare to fire

It's time she understands why I’m never inspired!

So I raise my hand I beg and plea

She responds “Okay Maddy, go ahead and spill us your cup of tea”

I Explain

Miss I capitalize every single word, because all the lower case letters play the victim begging to be heard.

No sentence will ever be complete, because my mind is in the middle of a war, with soldiers that only scream defeat.

I didn’t turn in my poem because you say not all poems rhyme, but it seems like people are ironically doing it all the time!

My essay didn't make it to 4 pages long,

Because I kinda got distracted

listening to a song…

I would say my dog ate my paper,

Wait crap, I was gonna use that excuse for later.

Math dividing my mind, but I’m on a word mission

Factor the difference...oxymoron? Wait no...juxtaposition?

She shakes her head, her hand out like a stop sign.

Because the only poem she really wants, is the one that's on time.

I bow my head in disappointment.

Her last words squeeze out like this healing ointment

“Maddy, Follow your gut And don’t overthink it,

Just take it Bird by Bird, because that's what Ann Lamont did”.
