Curtain Call

The show goes on but she stays behind the curtain.

Determined to keep to the shadows and observe.

Keeping to herself, she dimmers the light inside;

Behind a friendly face and shy demeanor she masks the talents:

A voice that could possibly compete with the birds ducks behind a clarinet reed at school,

But soars in her room, the kitchen, and definitely the shower.

Opinions, ideas, creativity gets lost in the group.

She blends in…….

But standing in the dark the realization comes that I am the she

I dimmer, I blend, I hide….

While holding on to the rope, waiting for the next curtain call the thought of leaving comes to mind.

When to cue is called I try to muster up the courage to abandon post and take center stage,

Bask in the spotlight and make them acknowledge the girl behind the curtain.
