Dear Counselors and Teachers

Valedictorian

Top of their class

We know you love them

You kiss their ass

Top ten percent

Oh, the selection

Another trophy

To add to your collection

They'll go to Yale, Princeton, Harvard

The rest of us you'll just discard

Top 25 percent

Not the best

But better than the bottom rest

High scores

For them opens doors

Bottom fifty percent

You don't care

Don't think we'll become

A millionaire

Our attending a state school

Doesn't make you drool

We don't get the cords

We don't get the awards

We don't get your attention

Not even a mention

You love the top

You give them your help

But you don't realize

The ones on the bottom

Are left to improvise

You don't care that we need your help too

We're not the trophies that you'll accrue
