Dear High School Freshman,

I remember you

I remember being like you,

I remember when my heart would pound and my hands would shake

and sometimes I couldn't even eat when I got so nervous because it felt like every lie, every secret, every word was stuck in my throat,

blocked by the foot in my mouth.

but a well intentioned "goodbye!" paired with the wrong name

They never asked for your name

They say your body is a temple but yours felt like a prison

betraying you every time you spoke

every time you showered, every time you dressed

when you cried, when you laughed

you tried to be thankful, but it's hard when there's a light at the end of the tunnel

I made it out of the tunnel

Love,

College Freshman, one year on t
