Dedication to Death

O' dear Edgar,

How did you ever weave your tale

of such mysterious sights?

How did you read the color red

and green and blue and black?

How did you carve the men?

How did you shape the animals?

How did you traverse the untold,

with the darkness of the world?

How did you sketch the winter?

How did you colour the gold?

How did you taste the gin,

the sherry, the amontillado?

How did you eye the oddities?

How did you form the strange?

How did you mask your heart?

How did you tell your tale?

(Readers, need I not say more,

his name was Edgar Allen Poe)
