The Definition of Love

I wish I could say “I’m over you”. But love doesn't easily go away.

I gave a fragment of my heart to you, and willingly it stayed.

I told myself that it doesn’t matter

But the feeling comes and I’m paralyzed.

You told me you didn’t love me, but yet you still needed me.

I pretended not to care but those words cut through

Like a dagger to my soul.

It’s time for me to walk away

For this love is poisonous.

I wish I could say “I’m over you.” But love doesn’t easily go away.

At times I sat and wondered, was there ever any love?

It was lust that drew me to you and love that pushed me back.

So easily I fell into the lies that sweetly poured from your lips.

If I could, I would not turn back the hands of time.

For I have learned a lesson too great to erase.

I was deceived. With clouded eyes I opened my heart and let the words sink in.

Now I realize it was not love.

Love is meant to be three-dimensional, but our love was hollow.

So I’ll take back that fragment I left with you and carry it with me.

Until I find a true definition of Love.
