Despair

Sat, 02/25/2017 - 19:58 -- Yeomans

Something cracked, and my fake smile began to falter,

A voice spoke, but the noise deflected,

Reflected by the wood and stone of an imaginary altar,

But mental images are always dissolving,

Evolving into chains that bind your soul like a halter.

My ears are ringing, but indifference comes by force,

Hiding a heart that has been rent,

Spent by the endless hours drifting off course,

But now this ship is becoming steady,

Ready to finalize the end of this troublesome divorce.

Something broke, and I see now that it’s beyond repair,

I try to fix it, but my hands shake badly,

Sadly, it seems as though I don’t have any energy to spare,

This is the sound of my heart groaning,

Moaning as ridicule and rejection pull me apart and I tear,

Pieces, broken after a hopeless dare,

Evaporate with an audible breath,

Death, thin as a strand of hair,

Phantoms eternally singing,

Bringing me into despair.
