Diamonds

Nigeria

Her eyes were like diamonds, glassy and sharp.

They pierced into the souls of whomever came her way.

They were the reason he wanted her so badly.

He felt a longing, a pull, that he could not explain.

Something about them drew him to her.

Her eyes were like sapphires, sparking and bright.

They tossed beams of sunlight upon those she loved.

They were the reason he wanted her so badly.

Her eyes were like amber, mysterious and gleaming.

They gazed with power at strangers on the street.

They were the reason he wanted her so badly.

Her eyes were like daggers, cold and cutting.

They stabbed into him with hatred.

They were the reason he wanted her so badly.

Now, her eyes were like dirty glass, listless and empty.

They could not reject him anymore.

They were the reason he wanted her so badly.

They stared vacantly forward, all life drained from the once gleaming diamonds.

The sapphires were gone, the amber stolen, and the daggers could cut no more.
