Since age 5 I've recited the pledge,
Day after day.
It never made me feel any certain way.

I remember the one time I truly thought and believed America was great:
When a man who was like me made history,
winning the election and taking first place.
I didn't know how much more it'd mean to me someday.

Years later, a president who claims he'll 'Make America Great Again' is what America has to show for itself.
Some think he'll save America by his wealth,
but I say the last thing this country needs is his help.

I wonder, who will America be great again for?
Is the plan to stuff the pockets of the rich but keep the poor just as poor if not more?

I have no right answer for how to get through the next few years.
All I know to do is to keep hope,
And Stay Woke,
Cause next time around,
we have to make sure no one like him will get our vote.

This poem is about:
Me
My country
