Do It For Yourself

It’s about to start,

Take a deep breath in.

Don’t worry about other people,

This is for you.

Training endlessly,

For what?
A medal?
A chance to make headlines?
No, none of that.

For the thrill,

The thrill of saying you made it.

No one can take it away from you,

Not even the ones who pushed you.

Another deep breath,

Calm your nerves.

Jump up in down,

Do something to calm down.

Three

Two

One

Go!

Surging forward,

Moving slowly at first.

All of a sudden your feet take flight,

Running down a street with everyone.

Only it doesn’t feel that way,

It feels like it’s only you and the world.

You’re in the zone,

No one can stop you.

What feels like minutes fly by,

When really it’s been an hour.

The end is near,

Don’t quit now.

Keep pushing yourself,

Everyone is slowing down.

You can do it,

Use that last ounce of strength.

Passing the line you don’t see familiar faces,

Don’t worry they are looking for you.

You know that this is what you were made to do,

Run.

Only it’s for you to relieve yourself,

Get away from the world.

Enjoy the moment that you are free from others,

It will happen every time you run.
