A brain washing system

In which we are expected to conform

Do the same as thy neighbor

Follow the rules

But if you dare to break these ongoing expectations
You will be silenced

How can you tell me I’m free

When I can only do certain things?

Freedom of speech?

Only when it’s convenient

If my words support you

Then by all means

Shout it from the rooftops

But if I dare to contradict your precious idols,

What would happen?

How can you tell me I’m free

When I can only do certain things?

Right to the pursuit of happiness?

Only if I follow your path to pleasure

Get a job

Get married

Have kids

But if I dare to break out of your cookie cutter ideals,

What would happen?

How can you tell me I’m free

When I can only do certain things?

Let me choose my own path

Follow my own rules

I wish to express myself differently than you

Because we are not the same

Do not expect me to conform

I dare to break free

Do you?
