The Drapes

Location

What does this world look like on the other side of the Drapes?

Is it green like lettuce, red like tomatoes, or is it purple like grapes?

I will never know, unlike the farmer who tends to his field,

For the farmer knows exactly what crop his seeds will yield.

I know not of the future, but for this moment I am certain:

Never will I ever step from out of this Curtain!

Though I'm not exactly distant, I'm not too close to friends,

For if they saw the real me, our friendship  might just end.

I feel like the politician, who hides from truth when he is wrong

And I'm also the sad cowboy, who hides in his favorite song.

You can rob me of my money, or whatever you want to steal,

But you won't touch my identity when I'm here beneath the Veil.

On my face you'll always find a smile, or fake happiness in my eye,

Even when the outside world makes me hold my head and sigh.

But there's always that one eagle, who is learning how to fly,

That when he falls and flaps his wings, he only wonders why.

Now what would be that answer? I'm no ordinary person.

Perhaps the only way to find out is to open up the Curtain.

Once I saw it, I knew there was no going back.

I felt as if the Earth split, and I was straddling the crack.

I feel I know that answer, as I know foxes, sheep, and deer.

It seems that all along I was hiding because of fear.

Fear of the unknown, has gone away at last.

It's time to tear the Drapes off the wall, and forget about the past!
