Dreams and Reality

I thought I knew who I was,

As every average American teenager does.

Actually, it turns out,

I have a lot of things still floating about.

Like which college will I choose?

Next year will I still be free of drugs and booze?

I have high hopes for the year that’s to come,

I will start college and my lingering pain will go numb.

For now I will reflect and makes goals for the future.

In hopes these new lessons will make me a learner.

Once again I auditioned for the Allstate Band,

And as soon as I jumped, to my surprise, I hit land.

This dream and goal I’ve had for years,

Was finally reached with joy and tears.

I journeyed to my birthplace, on a school trip

Enduring long flights, which made my stomach flip.

I arrived in Spain with a groggy smile

And spent twelve days making my life worthwhile.

Of course there were times when I was blue,

I struggled with staying connected with friends I once knew.

I experienced several changes,

 Some abrupt and others welcomed.

Still, with my head on my shoulders,

This poem is about:
Me
