It breaks my heart

to think

that the cost of an education

can turn someone away 

from the dream they once had. 

 

Future doctors,

engineers, 

lawyers, 

journalists, 

scientists,

and presidents

may not become those things at all. 

 

Instead,

they are forced to settle

for a college they can afford

and a career they don't like.

 

And because

our society puts more emphasis

on money

rather than education

more people care about

getting ahead

than their dreams.
