I am a poet.
Not an essayist.
I cannot conform.
I cannot be shackled
in the bo n ds
known as punctuation
and grammar.
I know my worth in writing.
But essays make me feel
like a flailing baby,
trying to break free
from a too tight cocoon.
Figurative language used
to hold it all together.
My syntax is too erratic,
my diction of it's own.
These words cannot be
held in paragraphs
with dirty indentations,
and pointed transitions.
I am a poet.
And you,
you cannot change
my words.
