Everyone wears a mask

Masks are all around us.

People hide.

I hide.

Act nice, keep that smile in place.

Don’t show them who you are.

Society expects to much.

Be perfect, what even is “perfect”

             Keep calm.

             Stay thin.

             Shut your mouth.

Don’t ever show your true self.

“Just be yourself” they say.

“We accept everyone” they preach.

They don’t.

People are full of hate.

No one is truly accepted.

That’s what’s stopping all of us.

Me.

You.

Your sister or brother.

That girl you can’t help but stare at in class.

No one is what they seem to be.

Masks are all around us.

All over us smothering who we really need to be.
