Everything is Fine

Painted across a thin veil

That hangs lightly in front of me

Is a girl who smiles,

And enjoys sports.

She laughs at the right times,

And thinks that people singing loudly is annoying.

She listens to pop music in silence,

Her headphones hanging out of her ears,

And she watches normal shows,

Like Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars.

Of course she thinks Drake is cute,

And she agrees with all of your political views,

And she thinks video games are okay, in small doses.

She likes science,

And understands everything you are saying,

And doesn't worry at all about her grades,

Or what her future is going to be like.

It doesn't bother her that she's never had a boyfriend,

And that no one has ever seemed interested.

She never thinks about her dad,

Because why would she?

Everything is fine.

But behind that veil,

Is a girl who loves to talk,

But worries that she talks too much.

She barely understands sports,

But wants to have the conversation.

She thinks the inappropriate jokes,

Are really funny,

And wants to laugh at them.

She wants to sing with the others in the room,

But worries that they don't know her,

Or that they won't like her voice,

Or that they will think she's weird,

So she stays silent.

She likes to walk and dance,

With her headphones in her ears,

Listening to songs that she's sure no one else had heard.

She watches shows,

Like Hannibal and Supernatural,

That she hears people make fun of,

And say "That's weird,"

So she doesn't talk about them.

She doesn't like Kanye,

Or Drake,

But would rather look at posters of Kurt Cobain,

And gamers on the internet.

She keeps her political views silent,

Because she knows you don't agree,

But she doesn't want to argue.

She loves video games,

Even though she's not very good at them.

She thinks science is cool,

But doesn't understand it very well,

And wishes she knew what you were saying,

When you talked about your paper.

She's worried about her grades,

And worried about her future,

Because she doesn't want to let her parents down,

And dissapoint them.

It doesn't bother her that she's never had a boyfriend,

But she wonders why no one has ever seemed interested.

She thinks about her dad,

And if he would be proud of her,

If he were still alive today.

Everything is fine.
