They told me when I scraped my knee

Running around with such innocent glee.

They told me when I failed my first test.

"Just focus more on the next."

They told me when my dearest Papi got diagnosed.

Is that the only comfort I get 

Anytime they see I am upset?

They told me when my Papi laid in the ICU.

Such a big man with one last thing to say,

His lips said "I love you" in the saddest way. 

As if he knew it was his last goodbye

While tears appeared from his eyes.

"Everything is going to be pkay."

They told me when my dearest Papi passed away.

I knew he was tired but I wanted him to stay.

He fought demons that others could not see. 

What will become of me?
