Expectations ≠ Reality

Location

The mind is extraordinarily intricate
complex senses yield emotions that are delicate
young girls growing up in a society
that advocates an unrealistic mentality
where beauty is synonymous with words like 'skinny'
and how love is only after bodies that are 'pretty'
a society who implies this unspoken requirement
for women and girls to starve yet shine like a diamond
how could they be so cruel to the ones who created us
our mothers, sisters, lovers, considering it just
to determine their existence so below that of men
enforcing ideas that are pernicious like a pin
puncturing flaws on bodies meant for adoration
deflating hopes, dreams and all aspiration
now ending up with a malnourished frame
believing it is rational to hold their body tame
an appetite strangled by its very own hands
her body withering, eliminating future plans
of a life, home, relationships, and hope
never to achieve the image in her scope
the very image she was educated to believe
that also drove her to binge and heave
some may not even execute their plans that way
others prefer to starve, living in disarray
food being associated with solely calories and fat
rather than energy, fuel, used for means which that
sustain our temple, the body, throughout the day
woman and girls who choose to starve and weigh
fixated on numbers that measure and say
“yes, you are good enough,” but really portray
suffering, stress, depression, emotions unbalanced
to the love in their hearts, personality or talent
which cannot be measured, weighed or controlled
because it is the one thing girls and women withhold
society who teaches them where or how to find love
wouldn't dare remind them what they're really made of.
